Hi nicholas, welcom to EE stack exchange, my first suggestion would be to check the chemistry of the batteries you are using, that is what will determine the charge procedure/IC, then try researching about the battery packs themselves, they most likely will have protection circuitry and probably balancing (in this case you may want a circuit that supports balancing). 120V MAX is based on using 2 DEWALT 60V MAX* lithium-ion batteries combined. By my standards, both of these are really, really cute. I like my 100Wh DeWalt 20V Max/6Ah battery a lot, and these are about 15Wh. Tiny. But, they are tool batteries, and I do like tearing tool batteries down - so, join me! Thanks for describing how the 60V works. Based on your inputs, the builder will deliver a pdf list with images, descriptions, SKUs and quantities. Why? Thicker wire is less safe because MUCH moe current will flow before it melts through and opens the circuit. A couple T10 Torx head screws laster, and Im in. And wow. Yuck. Ive seen some nasty packs, but this is up there. Gross. Its quite corroded, either from a vented cell or from being quite wet. The chip handles the charging of the battery completely on its own, with a single 5V power supply (most if not all those modules have a USB socket on them). The Flexvolt battery incorporates a switch in the body of the battery which, in part, controls if the battery is wired up in series (60v) or parallel (20v.) Tool battery packs can make a handy portable power source for various projects. Opens in a new window or tab. I thought about being done here, since the pack still worked, but then I looked at the voltage sag. Its not a useful pack, and I dont own any Ryobi tools anyway. Why not keep going? I thought I saw some cool stuff on the bottom of the circuit board. Part of this project will be making a circuit that can charge all 9 of these at once, without removing them to put them on a separate charger. It means that the charger does the balancing, the logic is inside the charger. 566), Improving the copy in the close modal and post notices - 2023 edition, New blog post from our CEO Prashanth: Community is the future of AI. Thats about it for the DeWalt. Its just the baby relative of the 20V Max stuff Ive worked with before. No BMS onboard, just cells, a case, and an interface board to bring various voltages, temperatures, and ID resistance values out. And, in this case, quite the mess. The DC9096 18V XRP Battery Pack has 25 percent more run-time and powers DEWALTSline of 18V tools, not including Univolt tools. These cookies will be stored in your browser only with your consent. Charging circuit for bulk 1.2v 1200mah ni-cad batteries. Cordless Drill/Driver (Tool Only), XTREME 12V MAX* Brushless Cordless Oscillating Tool (Tool Only), XTREME 12V MAX* 5-3/8 in Brushless Cordless Circular Saw (Tool Only), XTREME 12V MAX* Brushless One-Handed Cordless Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only), XTREME 12V MAX* 1-3/4 in. Pay close attention to the color coding of the wires. This Lithium Ion Battery is compatible with all DEWALT . Add custom attachment points or integrate with your own project as needed. However, out of curiosity, I did probe the end ports - and, hey! Voltage! This works out to 4.02V/cell, which is nicely charged. I can do some testing on this pack! Be aware that the 20V packs are typically 5S, so three in series would of course be 15S. 1 min read. Before I dive in, lets inspect the top. This pack has the same general connection layout as the bigger lithium packs - two double height pins on the end, and six sockets in the middle. Annoyingly, these arent labeled like they are on the newer packs. I did a bit of probing around with the pack assembled and couldnt make any sense of what I saw, though. Unless DeWalt has done something very, very weird with this pack, its quite stone dead. Its lost in the reflection here, but someone did write Bad in faded marker on the latch. So, probably dead. Also of note, on the right side, you can see a 2010 build date under the muck. Probably week 34, if its a normal build date encoding, so late August. Almost exactly 8 years ago to this post, which long predates this blogs existence. DeWalt DCB120 Battery Pack(about $25 on eBay for a genuine one)is a Type 1 battery pack (the 20V Max packs are Type 2), rated for 12V (Max), and 15.6Wh. Ive messed with enough DeWalt packs to know that their capacity ratings are determined by someone in marketing with a calculator and not any of the engineers. If you divide 15.6 by 12, you get a neat and tidy 1.3 - so Id guess the cells in here are 1300mAh cells, and three of them. Now, if I were to call this pack something, Id call it something like 11.1V, 14.4Wh, but thats me. I will nevermanage to get myself hired as a tool battery marketing type.
